No Alabama student can pass up the opportunity to beat Auburn at anything, even when it comes to feeding the underprivileged.
Monday, Oct. 11 marked the start of the annual Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive with a pie throwing contest. Contestants each had a jar in which to raise money. The contestants who gained the most money were pied Wednesday afternoon. Contestants included SGA President James Fowler and several UA student and faculty members.
All proceeds from this food fight for a cause will be donated to the West Alabama Food Bank, which feeds nine counties in the Tuscaloosa area.
Since 1994, students from UA and Auburn have engaged in a competition to feed their surrounding communities. Over 2.5 million pounds have been collected.
Beat Auburn Beat Hunger will come to a close Nov. 22, but until then, students can donate cans in food collection barrels around campus. Students can also contribute $10 donations by texting “BAMA” to 27722.
