Tuscaloosa Living

It’s that time of year again: lease season has begun.

So many living options are available in Tuscaloosa for the upcoming year. Students wishing to escape dulls of campus can “retreat” to many off campus locations for some R and R.
The Retreat has been a hit with Greek students over the past year. Amenities are the major selling point for this rental property. Known for having one of the largest pools in Alabama, there is always a party going on during warmer weather. The clubhouse offers a variety of fun and distractions from studying on any day. The Retreat offers your own cottage to create a home with your roommates. This location is not the most desirable, but some say, “Once you arrive, you do not want to leave.”
A newer rental option has just opened up in the woods. The Woodlands offers townhouse style living with great amenities in a location close to everyday necessities. Settled between Target and McFarland, Greeks can zip easily to the mall or Midtown in no time. The Woodlands creates a peaceful world just outside of the hustle and bustle of city life. Nestled in a wooded landscape, this property is ready for any Greek to study, relax by the pool or even climb the rock wall. This location is still growing and dealing with McFarland Blvd. can sometimes be a nightmare; nonetheless, The Woodlands is a hit with Greeks.
Houses behind Tutwiler and on Riverside Dr. have always been a desired location for Greek students. Though lacking the newness of many options in town, these house offer charm and great locations that one cannot get from an apartment. An easy walk for class and game day, these houses create great party houses for Greeks to gather when the bars or band parties are not rocking. Though sometimes difficult to come across a great find, if you ever do, snatch it up because it will provide great memories to last.
Staying true to the Alabama football tradition, The Houndstooth Condominiums offers Greeks an easy escape from campus, while still staying in walking distance. This condo complex is newly built with a great, more relaxed pool area (when the rager at the Retreat pool might be too much to handle after a long night out). These units provide upscale living arrangements that allow Greeks to feel many comforts of home. Though pricier than most apartments, The Houndstooth is a fun place with quick access to 15th Street, the Strip and campus.
Of course, many other apartments are scattered throughout Tuscaloosa and each offer something special. Behind the strip, though old and small, these apartments offer short walking distance to the bars, which is something desired after a long night at Gallettes. The Downs and Campus Way offer more affordable living, and University Village is just becoming lackluster. A new apartment complex is opening in the fall, Sterling Crimson. Being brand new, this could be another option for Greeks looking for a clean, convenient home.
No matter where you decide to call home in Tuscaloosa, take a look around to find the best place that fits your wants, needs and price range. Tuscaloosa living has many great rental options for Greeks, it just takes a little time and effort to find the best place for you.
